jeffrey berman nick naught fedoraThe Agency recently grilled Naught for Hire producer Jeffrey Berman with some tough questions; because we’re the tough guys, see!

While he is very excited to talk about the project, which he admitted when we shone the hot, bright light directly on him, there are some secrets he feels are best kept under wraps for now.  As he, John E. Stith and Ben Browder mentioned at various times, Naught for Hire is in development with Paramount Digital and progress is being made to bring Naught to the public eye. Even with the combination of secrets and contractual obligations, Mr. Berman was still able to answer some questions that have been posed by fans to Naught P.I. Agency and Naught Stuff on Facebook. The Agency added a few of its own.

Naught P.I. Agency: What does ‘in development’ mean in general and what does it mean specifically for Naught for Hire right now?

Jeffrey Berman: Development covers a wide range of pre-production that can range from writing a script to casting a project to finding the funds to produce it and everything in between right up until the project receives a green light and you actually enter the production phase.

Naught, obviously, has a completed script for the entire series and most of the cast is in place.  What we are still working on is securing the funds to shoot the project. Since we’re aiming for a web telecast, the funding process is not traditional and as this is still new territory it’s taking longer than we had hoped.

JB: Ben is actively producing the project with me and is involved in every aspect of it.

NPIA: Is the direction Paramount is going with the show the same direction you had in mind? Is there anything they have in mind that surprised you?

JB: Okay, so here’s the rub, right now my hands are tied when it comes to discussing any of this. I know it’s frustrating to hear that, believe me, it’s frustrating for me too, but the upside is that we want this to be a quality project and we won’t rush into making something that’s anything less than our best. When we can discuss the project in detail I promise the fans will be the first to know.

NPIA: What happened to the comic book [a prequel set ten years prior to where Naught for Hire the series picks up]?

JB: We’re still working on it and in fact, I hope to be able to discuss more about this soon, too.

NPIA: Is there anything more the fans can do to help?

JB: Stay vigilant.  Keep supporting us.  Spread the word and keep your fingers crossed.

NPIA: Thank you Jeffrey.

Well, that’s more than we knew before. The positive thing to take away here is that this project has strong commitment behind it on everyone’s part and it is making progress; that information and the fact that we have Jeffrey’s inside view that he is willing to share with us when it’s possible.

For the record, we also asked about web broadcast access for non-US markets, more promo pictures, sponsors, the trailer, other casting info (boy wizards, twinkly vampires, zombies) and the future of Naught beyond the web. These unanswered questions will stay on our to-do list for future interviews with Agency guests.
